Sladen Estates in a Joint venture with Peveril Securities and Helios Real Estate have acquired the old County Hospital in Durham for redevelopment into student accommodation.
Formally a hospital dating back from as early as 1853 the acquisition see’s Sladen Estates first foray into the development of student accommodation. It is envisaged that the redevelopment of the site will see up to 480 student bedrooms created with part of the original structure being retained.
Chief Executive Nick Sladen said: ” We are delighted to have purchased the old County Hospital which will house our first student development. It is a market we have been looking to enter for a period of time now and we are glad we’ve been able to do it with a site of such importance to the local area.
We’re very mindful of the heritage and landscape of the site, plus its proximity to Durham’s World Heritage Site. These factors will be integral in bringing forward our development proposals and we will look to engage with the local community, the council and other relevant parties prior to submitting a planning application.”
